Social Video Series for Pitchfork

During a holiday party, Pitchfork associate editor and all-around sweetheart Sam Sodomsky approached me and said he wanted to create a video series in which he’s the Guy Fieri of record stores. With a longline like that, who needs a pitch deck!

We started in Greenpoint with three quintessential NYC shops: Captured Tracks, Record Grouch, and Academy Records (before they moved). We chatted with workers to get some background about the store and recommendations about what they specialize in. But most of the fun happened when talking to the patrons. There’s always a character in a record shop!

We even went international with the show, filming an episode in Barcelona with the great Ultra Local Records. Our final episode before I got laid off was with Brazillian musician Tim Bernardes. Tim gave us an education about Brazillian music, from psych to jazz to the quintessential Tropicalia picks. Shopping with artists was an exciting direction for the show. But alas, both me and Sam were laid off in the great Pitchfork purge. I saw him the other day. We might start the show again. Stay tuned.
